Anandamayi Bajaj is the first woman from the Jamnalal Bajaj family to take on a leadership role in the Bajaj Group. The fifth-generation entrepreneur joined the business in August 2025 as General Manager, Group Strategy, where she is working across key group companies, including Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, Bajaj Consumer Care, Bajaj Energy, and the Bajaj Foundation.
Anandamayi’s role is currently centred on understanding the group’s diverse businesses closely, from sugar and ethanol to power and consumer products.
Learning the Business from the Ground Up
What makes Anandamayi’s journey especially interesting is the significance of her place in the family’s legacy. As the first woman from the family to step into this level of responsibility, Anandamayi has spoken openly about the weight of that role.
In an interview with The Week, she said, “I recognise that I am stepping into a space built by generations of hard work, and I feel responsible for carrying that legacy forward in a meaningful way.”
Anandamayi has graduated from Columbia University, where she studied Financial Economics and Mathematics, a background that fits naturally with the strategic role she now holds.
She has also shared that she is looking closely at areas such as technology adoption, consumer engagement and operational efficiency, while thinking about how the group can grow in sectors shaped by sustainability and changing consumer needs.
Beyond the Boardroom
Beyond work, Anandamayi has spoken about her interests in sustainability, animal welfare, rural development and women-led initiatives. These interests connect naturally with the social impact legacy associated with founder Jamnalal Bajaj.
Her entry into the Bajaj Group is not just part of a succession story. It also reflects how legacy Indian business families are changing with younger voices and women taking more visible leadership positions than before.
